My Plein Workshop Last Weekend.

Last weekend I had a memorable time of painting with my 6 workshop students, one from Long Beach and another from Sparks Nevada.

The first day we met at Duncan’s Landing, just north of Bodega Bay and I demonstrated by painting  a quick 9”x12” study before the fog completely lifted. Knowing that the fog can change at any time, I stressed the importance of getting the canvas covered and saving the details for the very end.

The next day we met at a ranch in Cotati that is owned by fellow artist, Don and Lorrain Levas. Again I demonstrated on but on a 12”x16” canvas panel. This time it was a view of the neighbor’s property just before another neighbor (Ron) came by to plow the field. I have done a few paintings at Ron’s place and I have this tractor in a few of them as well. It is an Oliver 70’.

In this photo you can see the charolais cows where enjoying this balmy morning as well.

Here are some figure drawings I sketched last night in a life drawing group in Sebastopol. Back in my collage days we were to do 50 figure drawing a week and I credit this disciplined to drawing my skills and draftsmanship to this day. Soon I'll blog on using the line to direct the eye through out the composition that will capture the beauty in the streamline figure. In this case it will be the landscape.

Redwood Nymphs
The last month has been good to us. We sold four paintings, At Petaluma Art in the Park we sold the seascape Morning Bliss and a new redwood painting, Redwood Nymphs. The woman who bought Morning Bliss felt it matched beautifully with the colors she likes. We have plenty of seascapes and another redwood painting at ARTrails this weekend and next. Come find the painting that fits for you!

Morning Bliss

At the end of the month we sold Mustard Path through Sebastopol Gallery and the seascape Variety of Rock to our neighbor.
